Banana Split is a documentary created in 2002 by Ron Harpelle and Kelly Saxberg. This documentary follows the history of the United Fruit Company, (now known today as Chiquita banana) and the fundamental impacts this company has had on banana workers in banana-producing regions. The film grapples with the realities of globalization and presents us with some serious moral dilemmas present in our globalized trade system. Following the documentary the hosts will open the room up to discussion, to share thoughts on this industry and brainstorm ways to make it better. This documentary is a deep dive into that low cost, It reveals the conditions in which bananas are produced and the business models that accompany those condition.
